"Ending cruelty, Giving hope"

DEETS' FUND

Hi, there!  My name is Deets, and I'm a Lab and Great Dane mix available for adoption through HOPE.  When I was just a baby, I was dropped off by some cruel person but thankfully rescued by a kind lady.  As I matured, I went through a rapid growth spurt, which caused my back legs to become "cow-hocked."  This condition is common in large breeds and, as you can imagine, is very uncomfortable and painful.  My humans say I am such a sweet, loving boy, and they want to get me the care I deserve.

My legs will require surgery, but since the procedure will be costly, I need your help.  If you want to contribute to my medical expenses, please send donations to HOPE for Animals, P.O. Box 1341, Thibodaux , LA 70302.  Checks should be made payable to HOPE for Animals.  Please specify on the memo line that the donation is for Deets' surgery.  Thank you for your compassion!

NOTICE!

Please note that HOPE's next meeting will be held on Thursday, March 4, at 6:30 PM at the Demitasse on St. Mary Hwy.  See you there!

HOME NEEDED!

Two beautiful, sweet babies are missing the love of their owner who tragically passed away on October 4, 2009, from complications following a car accident.  Her family, who requested that donations be made to HOPE in lieu of flowers, is now having a difficult time caring for these deserving dogs.  Both pups, a male and a female, have been fixed and vaccinated and are on monthly heartworm preventive.  The family is requesting that they both go to the same home, which must have a fenced-in yard.  For more information, or if you are interested in adopting, please call Brittany at 985-665-7122 or Ben at 985-803-0471.

DONATE BEDS TO HOMELESS ANIMALS!

It's c-c-c-coooooooold outside this winter, and our cats and dogs would love nothing more (besides finding their forever homes) than a nice, warm bed to stay cozy in while the temperatures are so awful!  If you're looking for something specific to donate to HOPE, please consider donating a pet air bed to a needy cat or dog.  Our four-legged angels would be most grateful, and for every bed sold, Animal Rescue of New Orleans (ARNO), a wonderful, no-kill animal shelter, receives a $1.00 donation!  Check out the gear today!

BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION--HAVE YOUR PETS SPAYED OR NEUTERED!

Are you in need of help getting your dog or cat spayed or neutered?  My Heart's Desire has a great, low-cost spay/neuter program in Terrebonne Parish.  Cost is $50 per cat and $60 per dog--cats must be at least 10- to 12-weeks-old or weigh 3 pounds.  Minimum weight for dogs is 3 pounds.  Volunteers transport your pets to and from Southern Animal Foundation in New Orleans every other month.  (Limit is 20 dogs and 20 cats per trip, and spaces fill quickly.)  If you are interested in this program, please email myheartsdesireministry@hotmail.com, or call Leslie at 985-852-4554 to request an application and information sheet.

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR LUCIA'S VET COSTS!

Meet sweet Lucia, an eight-month-old pup who's had a rough start in life beginning with her mother (Juliet) being abandoned just days before giving birth to her pups.  Fortunately,  a HOPE member found the very pregnant mother and took her in.  When Lucia was about six-weeks-old, her mother accidentally stepped on her eye, causing irreparable damage--the eye had to be surgically removed.  Since then, Lucia has battled with numerous infections to the area where her eye once was.  She has had to wear a drain (like the one in the photos) on several occasions while having to take strong antibiotics to fight infection.  This darling pup has been a trooper through it all, and her medical problems have not slowed her down one bit.  She is a playful pup with the sweetest personality (and very smart to boot!).  Check out the Youtube video of Lucia at play.  It is not certain if another surgery will be necessary at this time, but if infection continues to be a problem, surgery will be likely.  If you would like to contribute to Lucia’s mounting vet costs, please specify donations to "Lucia’s fund."  This wonderful baby is available for adoption.  For more information concerning Lucia,  please send an email to meacat at mobiletel dot com. Thank you for your generosity.

UPDATE!

"Benny," the precious Prairieville Boston Terrier mix who had been cruelly burned by either chemicals or hot liquids, is still in need of a loving, caring home!  Unfortunately, after Hurricane Gustav, Benny was attacked by a dog and lost of one his eyes as a result of the damage.  However, this playful, affectionate boy is well now and ready for his forever, adult-only home!  If you are interested in making this special boy a part of your life, or if you'd like to donate money for his vet expenses, please call Ascension Animal Advocates at 225-315-3438.  Thank you!
